Can I get a digital copy of an item in Special Collections?

Answer

Special Collections provides reproduction services in the form of digital scans and copy stand digital photographs. All reproduction materials remain property of UMBC. Due to the fragile nature of the materials, digitization is done on a case-by-case basis and is subject to the discretion of the Special Collections staff, based on the condition of the item, its size, any donor-imposed restrictions, and copyright law.

In-house reproductions (from original sources, printed materials, or the web) are made for research and private study only, and are not for resale. They may not be transferred, recopied, broadcast or published in print or digital form without first obtaining permission to do so. We can help you with permission for some items; email speccoll@umbc.edu for assistance.

You can request digital scans or files by completing the digitization request form. Please complete and send to speccoll@umbc.edu. You can also email us with any questions about this process or to request a cost estimate.
