Where can I find research articles on my topic or in my discipline or subject area? Can you tell me what databases to use?

AOK OneSearch

The UMBC library subscribes to over 450 databases in a wide variety of disciplines and subject areas. The holdings of the majority of these databases are searchable through AOK OneSearch (the main search bar on the library homepage). OneSearch is especially helpful for interdisciplinary searching, as it includes a range of STEM, social science, and humanities content. However, you can also choose to search through individual databases  as a way to ensure a more narrow scope targeted only to your discipline and subject area.

Other Library Databases

To identify the databases that UMBC subscribes to by subject area:

  • Explore the library’s Research Guides. These are guides that have been curated by the Subject Librarian for each major and subject areas at UMBC. You can explore the research guide for your academic discipline to identify the top databases in your field.
  • Use the A-Z Database search. This features a listing of the 450+ databases alphabetically by title, or you can use the small search bar on the right side of the yellow banner to search by subject area and/or keyword to locate relevant databases (i.e. Chemical Engineering, History, etc.)
  • Make an appointment with the Subject Librarian in your area of study to discuss your research topic and relevant databases and other resources. Visit the Make a Research Appointment page to schedule a one-on-one appointment with a librarian. These meetings are held online or in person at the library.
